As the temperature drops, don’t be tempted to warm your belly with rich macaroni and cheese and creamy soup.

Instead, get that toasty feeling from super foods: healthy eats that are loaded with nutrients, antioxidants, and immune-boosting powers that your body needs to power itself through January’s cold weather.

1. Oatmeal – Oats are a whole grain that will give you a dose of fiber and plant-based protein that will stop hunger with just one bowl.

2. Hot Dark Chocolate – Yep that’s right! Nix that sugary powered mix and replace with two squares of dark chocolate, almond milk and marshmallow bits. Adding dark chocolate to your diet is a great health booster.

3. Black Bean Soup – There’s nothing like a soup with cumin and chili pepper to heat you up when things get cold. Beans are a great source of iron and copper.

4. Brussels Sprouts – In addition to being packed with fiber and cancer-fighting phytonutrients, Brussels sprouts run high in vitamin C to boost your immune system.

5. Pumpkin Soup – A dose of pumpkin will do you good this winter! It is an excellent source of antioxidants, beta-carotene and may have cancer fighting powers.

6. Chili – Chili peppers contain a compound called capsaicin, which gives them their spicy kick, it is thought to boost metabolism and fight the buildup of fat.

7. Avocado – There’s a way to enjoy this creamy fruit even when it’s chilly out! Oven roasting avocado makes it even creamier! About half of the fat of avocado comes from monounsaturated fat, which helps lower your bad cholesterol levels and provide nutrients for cells to function.

8. Walnuts – Walnuts are good any time of year, but they make a lovely roasted snack in the winter! Walnuts are rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) and omega-3 fats thought to boost heart health.
