It’s summer. All your kids may want to do is sit in front of the TV and watch movies all day or play games on their gaming console or computer. However, it’s important for them to stay active. Not sure how to get them off the couch and heading outside? Here are some great ways for you to create exciting games and join in on their activities as a family!

Fitness Circuit

Not sure how to create a fitness routine for your kids? Try combining exercises from your routine and add playground activities to bring it full circle. Do you have a basketball hoop or trampoline? That could be the first station. Other activities you may want to include are hopscotch, jumping jacks, burpees, and even jumping rope.

Nature Scavenger Hunt

Whether you hit your backyard or local park, get outside and get active. Before you hit the trail, you can decide on everything to keep an eye out for like rocks, plants, leaves, and even animals! Make it a competition to get them really engaged, with a prize you know they’ll go all out for.

Ride Bikes

Riding bikes may not seem like the most vigorous workout, and that’s what makes it so perfect. This low-impact activity can go for as long or as short as you want. Ride to the local ice cream parlor or to the beach and back instead of taking the car. Not only are you keeping your kids active, you’re also making it fun!

Charity 5K

Summer is one of the best times to run a 5K. Many charities will sponsor marathons, with some geared towards kids. Start a couch to 5K training program to get both you and your kids ready for the big day! It even has the added benefit of helping your kids set goals and achieve them as a team.

Treasure Hunt

Take the nature scavenger hunt a step further and construct a treasure hunt inside and outside your house. Have the clues involve a workout or exercise that will lead them to the next clue. At the end, offer a prize that gives them a reason to want to do treasure hunts all summer long!
