Parents can find it challenging to get their kids to brush twice daily not to mention making sure they’re brushing well. But when you make brushing more fun, kids are more likely to keep up with it. Here are new ways you may not have tried yet:

1.) Mobile apps: Many major oral care brands now offer interactive apps that can make brushing more exciting with timers, games and brushing tips kids will love.

2.) Timers: If you’re not keen on your kids using a phone so close to the bathroom sink, there are other ways to ensure they’ll brush for the full two minutes. You can find fun timers at the store, and some kids toothbrushes will play music for two minutes.

3.) Competitive spirit: Tap into sibling rivalry for a good cause. If your kids are competitive, make brushing their teeth a game to see who can brush longer and make more bubbles.

4.) Songs and rhymes: Find a two-minute song your kids enjoy and make a game of brushing until the music stops. You can also make up your own brushing songs by putting different words to popular children’s songs. Here’s a fun one to try:

(To the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”)

Here’s my toothpaste
Here’s my brush
I won’t hurry, I won’t rush.
Working hard to keep teeth clean
Front and back and in between
When I brush for quite a while
I will have a happy smile.
