There are a lot of options when it comes to freshening your breath, making it tough to decide if its better to opt for chewing gum, sprays, mints or strips. The most commonly used products however are chewing gum and mints.

Here are some of the pros and cons we found people saying about each them.

Chewing Gum PROS: Instant taste and a blast of flavor can help sweeten breath in a hurry. Many gum brands nowadays can actually help whiten teeth. Certain gums will actually kill bacteria and odor-causing germs rather than just masking the smell. Chewing gum helps stimulate saliva production, which can help with bad breath and dry mouth. The act of chewing can help remove food and bacteria from the teeth after a meal.

Chewing Gum CONS: Chewing gum can be distracting during conversation, and does not look well in certain situations, like an interview. Some gums can lose flavor too quickly. Larger packaging and sensitivity to heat make gum harder to carry around or keep in a pocket.

Mint PROS: Instant taste and a blast of flavor can help sweeten breath in a hurry. Sucking on a mint is more subtle than chewing gum.Mints are easy to keep in a pocket and take on-the-go given their small size. Some mints outlast the flavor of gum. There are usually more mints in a single package compared to a single pack of gum.

Mint CONS: Mints dissolve in your mouth, so you tend to consume more, almost like a candy. There aren’t as many flavors of mints to choose from. Mints are often more expensive than packs of gum (*varies by brand and retailer) If you have chronic bad breath, you may also consider scheduling an appointment at the dentist.
