Brushing – kids hate it, parents know it’s important. Or at least, that’s a common conflict in households. The hassle of getting your kids to brush is no fun, but the benefits of establishing good brushing habits are huge.

Besides preventing tooth decay and gum disease, which is one of the most common causes of tooth loss, brushing twice daily can also help prevent heart disease by washing away plaque that can build up in arteries. (In fact, there are lots of hidden health benefits to brushing.) So why not make brushing a bit easier and more fun for the kids?

It’s no secret kids love games, and gamifying brushing can be an especially great tactic for families with multiple children. Here are some examples of easy games that will get kids excited about brushing their teeth!

Super Hero – Use a towel or cloth to turn your child into a cavity caped crusader. Have them pretend that brushing their teeth is the only way they can defeat the evil germs that threaten their toothy town. Purchase a toothbrush with your child’s favorite superhero or character it can encourage them to participate in the game and get excited about fighting cavities.

Time It – Use a kitchen timer or stopwatch to play a racing game with your kids. Set the clock to two minutes and challenge your child to finish at the same time as the timer. You can also purchase toothbrushes that play songs that allow kids to easily time their brushing and make sure they are spending enough time on their teeth.

Sing a Song Music – is a great tool to motivate kids to brush. You can use the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star for this fun song:

Heres my toothpaste, heres my brush.
I wont hurry, I wont rush.
Working hard to keep teeth clean.
Front and back and in between.
While I brush for quite a while, I will have a happy smile!

Children respond well to positive encouragement and follow the example of those they look up to and trust, so don’t be afraid to participate in these toothy games, too, and make brushing teeth a fun family time! Come in and and gives us your own tips!
