Ways To Start Loving Your Lunch
Does lunch have you feeling unsatisfied? A little underwhelmed? Do you conveniently forget your lunch at home and stop by that delicious kebab cart? Well, you’re not alone. This week we put together a few things to think about that might help you boost your lunch from blah to brilliant. Maybe you’ll even save a little cash in the process.
Make lunch, then make it fashionable.
Gone are the days of plastic baggies and brown paper bags. Pack your lunch in something you’ll love seeing and will get excited for. Stores like Amazon and Target have an endless selection of options that will fit your lifestyle. Here are some trends and styles we are noticing:
- A retro comeback! Metal lunch pails from the 50’s are cool again
- Sustainable styles made with organic cotton or from recycled materials
- Lunch bags that look like purses (see we told you there would be fashion!) or over-sized zippered pouches
Also along the lines of packaging, reusable containers are making a splash. Look to stores like Target, Walmart, and Amazon for a selection of containers like Japanese-style bento boxes with compartments for all parts of your meal to individual containers you can stack that will fit neatly into a lunch box.
Prepare your meals and snacks ahead of time.
Meal prepping guides with recipes on keto, macro, whole this and whole that are all over the Internet. While working towards a specific health goal could be your incentive to start packing lunches, we’re suggesting to simply take a meal prepping approach. Putting a little extra thought into your meals can help:
- Make sure you’re eating from all food groups
- Manage portion sizes
- Take worry of preparing lunch the night or morning before out of your routine
- Make you more proud to eat what you brought because you made it yourself
Give yourself options.
Plan to make more than one meal and snack option. This way you won’t be sick of what you’ve prepared by the end of the week. Mix and match your lunch items for a different meal every day.
As you can see, it’s all about the details. Scheduling time to preparing and packaging your lunch well ahead of time will eliminate the stress associated with lunch, and also ensure that you are getting something you’ll enjoy.
