Summer may be winding down, and the last thing you want to do is think about heading back to school, or sending your kids back to school. There are so many things to consider, like bedtimes and wakeup times, morning schedules, getting supplies, and so much more. To save some of the back to school crunch at the end of the summer, try getting ready ahead of schedule!

Plan a Shopping Trip

The first thing you’ll want to do is plan a shopping trip and shop early. August is known as the second-biggest month for clothing stores, with sales starting as early as July. Before you shop, figure out what your kids need. Have they outgrown their clothes and shoes? Are their clothes worn out? Organize their clothes to assess what you need to buy. When you know what you need, you spend less money on things you already have. Do the same with school supplies, as most schools will send out a list before shopping season, and you’ll be ahead of the game!

Do a Practice Run

Do you know how your kids will be getting to school? Will you be driving them? Are they going to take the bus? Figure out how long the drive will take, so you know how early you need to leave the house. And don’t forget to account for school-time traffic. If your kids are taking the bus, you should figure out where the closest stop is to your house and see how long it takes to walk there. Also figure out when the bus will be there to pick up the kids. This helps your kids learn the route and set a baseline for the time they need to leave the house.

Get Organized

Organization is key when school is back in session. From morning routines to excess clutter, it’s important to have a plan for before and after school. If your household suffers from morning madness, plan ahead and implement everything before the start of the school year. Each night, try to plan for the day ahead: lay out clothes, double-check that homework assignments are in the backpack, make lunch the night before, and even create a bathroom schedule to avoid any time crunches. To make the week more streamlined, try meal prepping on Sundays and create a system to tackle household chores efficiently and effectively.
