The Annual Academy Awards is the perfect excuse for throwing a fabulous party!

Dust off the champagne glasses, pull out the cheese boards and put on your DIY hat – because we have some great tips and recipes for hosting the perfect Oscar Party!

1.) Red Carpet – Jazz up your front entrance with a Red Carpet Runner, which can be purchased at a reasonable price online or at the nearest party store.

2.) Paparazzi – Put someone in charge of snapping Polaroids of your guests as they arrive, and hang them around the party as decorations. At the end of the night, hand them out as party gifts, so guests will have a memento from their night “at the Oscars.”

3.) Bubbly! – Set out a tray of Champagne Cocktails that guests can grab as they enter the house. Try this Orange-Cherry Champagne Cocktail recipe from Jane Lopes, the beverage director of The Catbird Seat in Nashville:

Ingredients:

3 seedless oranges
Peel 1/2 orange
1/2 c. red cherries
1/4 c. sweet vermouth (such as Carpano Antica)
1/4 c. blended scotch (such as Famous Grouse)
1 bottle of champagne or sparking wine

Directions:

Transfer orange juice to a blender. Add cherries and blend until the fruit is pureed. Strain juice into a pitcher, then stir in vermouth and scotch. Divide the cocktail mixture among 8 glasses and top off each with about 1/3 cup champagne. Garnish with orange peels.

4.) Ballots – Make a game out of the evening, and pass out printable ballots so your guests can make their predictions on who will take home the golden statues. To add to the fun, offer a prize to the guest who gets the most right. This will keep the attention of even the most disinterested viewer. Printable ballots can easily be found online.

5.) Did someone say “Cheese”? – Nothing classes up a party, quite like a nice cheese board. Pick up a few different types of cheese, and set them out on one or two boards or large plates accompanied by crackers, slices of a baguette, and a selection of fruit like sliced gala apples and red seedless grapes. To get even more points for presentation – use plain wooden or plastic stakes and a Sharpie to label the spread and separate the cheddar from the gouda.

Don’t forget to prep ahead of time, so you can enjoy your company, and take part in all of the fun!
