Budgeting on holiday gifts can be tough. We want everyone’s face to light up with joy when they see what we’ve given them, but we can’t blow our budget splurging on gifts for everyone.

We have found the solution with DIY gifts that look expensive (but really aren’t), and are perfect to bring to the hosts of holiday parties you’re attending.

The first is a DIY Color Blocked Wood Vase, which can double as a centerpiece if you fill it with fresh flowers. The second is a DIY Marble Tray that you can bring as a cheese plate and leave behind for your host (just try to remember to wash it for them before you leave the party).

DIY Color Blocked Wood Vase

These vases are so versatile and easy, and would look great during the holidays and year-round. The secret is adhesive wood sheets that simply wrap around any vase you have or can find at the dollar store. First you measure and cut the wood sheet to fit the height and circumference of your vase. Then you paint the sheet. You can stick to the example shown, or get creative and use holiday stamps or stencils to make it your own. When your masterpiece is dry, simply remove the backing and stick the wood sheet to your vase. Smooth out any air bubbles and voila! A beautiful gift any host would appreciate.

DIY Marble Tray

This tray is so easy to make, but looks like you spent big bucks. All you’ll need is a marble tile from the hardware store, drawer or cabinet pulls of your choice, felt sticky pads and industrial strength glue. Then all that’s left is the assembling! Stick the felt pads on each corner of the bottom, measure and glue on your handles, wiping away any excess glue, then leave overnight to dry. That’s it! This can be a tray for the bathroom, coffee table, desk, or our favorite, a cheese plate.
