How to Avoid Summer Vacation Health Regression

Ah, the lazy days of summer. While it’s certainly nice to enjoy vacation time, don’t forget that it’s always important to keep you and your family’s health in mind.

Here are some ways to help the kids stay healthy (while still having fun) all summer long.

Sign them up for summer sports.

Getting your kids involved in a summer sports league is a great way to give their summer days structure, plus they get regular exercise. Just be sure that your kids wear a mouth guard when they play sports. You can make an appointment with your dentist for a custom-fit mouth guard, which is the best option. If you don’t want a custom one, try a store-bought boil and bite option.

Keep them hydrated.

From sports to amusement parks to swimming, chances are your kids will be busy this summer and thirsty. While it may be tempting to give them typical summer thirst quenchers like lemonade and soda, those beverages are loaded with cavity-causing sugar. Instead, make sure your kids are drinking plenty of water.

Have healthy snacks on hand.

Summer offers plenty of opportunities for unhealthy food choices. Try to steer for the healthy options by keeping healthy snacks easily accessible. Keep them front and center in the kitchen, and bring them along in your bag and car. Some great options are fresh fruits, veggies, cheese sticks, nuts and yogurts.
