How Stress Can Harm Your Smile
When we’re stressed, we tend to overlook some of the things we should be doing for our health such as flossing or brushing thoroughly.
Here are some oral health mistakes to try to avoid when you’re feeling the effects of stress.
- Eating Junk Food: When you’re busy and need food fast, it can be tempting to eat fast food or snack on junk food. But these easy foods are very hard on your teeth. Not only are sugary, fatty foods bad for your dental health and your waistline, they don’t do much for energy levels either. Try re-thinking your comfort foods and instead try: nuts, blueberries, plain yogurt, or dark chocolate. They’ll keep your energy up and your smile healthy!
- Smoking and/or Drinking: Smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol can damage your oral and physical health, plus they can also act as stimulants that can amplify stress. Next time you need to decompress, try taking a 30-minute walk outside instead. Fresh air and light physical activity have been shown to clear your mind, relieve stress, and even make you more creative.
