Home remedies for dental care


While we always advocate visiting a dentist twice yearly and using ADA-approved products, there are a few cool tricks that your great-grandmother used for her oral health that are still applicable today. Here are some of my favorites – while scientifically we may not be able to prove they always work, we know for sure they don’t hurt!

  1. Chew fresh spinach leaves, raw onion or slices of lime or lemon peel to help prevent the development of cavities Parsley, licorice and fennel are all natural breath sweeteners
  1. Gargle with baking soda dissolved in water, or try gargling with a solution of warm water, ginger and lemon juice
  1. Brush your teeth with coconut oil – it can kill the bacteria that cause bad breath.
  1. Munch on strawberries – they help polish teeth naturally and can even remove stains from teeth.
