While we always advocate visiting a dentist twice yearly and using ADA-approved products, there are a few cool tricks that your great-grandmother used for her oral health that are still applicable today. Here are some of my favorites – while scientifically we may not be able to prove they always work, we know for sure they don’t hurt!
- Chew fresh spinach leaves, raw onion or slices of lime or lemon peel to help prevent the development of cavities Parsley, licorice and fennel are all natural breath sweeteners
- Gargle with baking soda dissolved in water, or try gargling with a solution of warm water, ginger and lemon juice
- Brush your teeth with coconut oil – it can kill the bacteria that cause bad breath.
- Munch on strawberries – they help polish teeth naturally and can even remove stains from teeth.
